There are good people working for bad companies which throw away edible food that could be valuable in the movement to meet every one inalienable right to eat food. Because food is a right not a privilege these workers need to unite in the effort to protect the right of ALL to sustain themselves.

We as Food Not Bombs should and will continue to be a conduit between what a higher  power  puts in our hearts and what government laws and concerns regarding food and it uses. We wish only to stay true to our hearts to empower others with the perspective that they can get a free meal in America with out someone governing how we should handle, prepare, and distribute it. We are good people. Join us and help us distribute this free FOOD NOT BOMBS.

THE BASICS of  Alexandria Food Not Bombs

Its purpose is to provide people the means to effect change in their own lives, and to break through the barriers of CLASS, RACE, GENDER, AGE, ETHNICITY, and all other ARTIFICIAL BOUNDARIES that keep people separated. It is an opportunity for people to decide for themselves how much they want to be involved; the power in Food NOT Bombs lies with the PEOPLE who CHOOSE to use it, within the framework of GROUP CONSENSUS!

Alexandria's Food Not Bomb was founded in the summer of 2004. The first 3 weeks we started to serve in front of City Hall on Saturdays around 11:30AM to 1:30PM were the roughest. The City and the Health department didn't quit giving us a hard time until I asked Andrei Blakely, a staff writer with Northern Virginia Journal, to write an article titled Volunteer face fee to feed homeless on Wednesday 07/28/04.

Since then we have served hot vegetarian/vegan feasts for special days like Veterans Night, Halloween, Christmas, New Years day and the Jones Point watershed clean up. We have also passed out free water in D.C. at a 9/11 Truth rally. During the fun and friendly Halloween picnic we had a pumpkin carving contest. The prize was a heavy jacket, which was won by one of our bicycle buddies. When we have clothes donated to us we wash them then give them out for free. The pumpkins where donated to us too.

Those who are interested are encouraged to join in getting together in public on a regular basis to share free animal friendly food. This was started by the people who can't look at all those mounds of discarded food and all those people who could use a good free meal without questioning the BASIC PRINCIPLES of a society that values wasteful consumption over common sense.

Email for those interested or with questions jmiller7499@email.vccs.edu or call for ANY REASON at (703) 909-6655, (703) 820-1219. Or check us out on myspace at AVA~FOOD NOT BOMBS~

There are a few things you DON'T need to be included in Food Not Bombs;

                              Highly developed cooking skills,

                                                     Money,

                                               Or permission

Do you ever feel helpless about the injustice you see at home or in other countries?

Do you ever worry that your children won't have a sense of humanity?

Afraid that growing up so close to the Capital is exposing them to the corruption of its greed driven world that society imposes today

Do you feel the poor shouldn't be taken away just so it will be easier for a majority to continue going about business with apathetic bliss?

Food Not Bombs has NO leaders. This means that people who are disturbed by the inequalities of this system don't have to wait for someone to tell you how to fix it. They ask or think of something them selves.

Don't wait for a courageous soul to lead the chants. Live out loud and use your OWN brave soul to give the poor a voice....

Do it because we are the ones we have been waiting for.

Suspect there are false leaders legislating lies in the name Education of Democracy which is actually oppressing low standards of the future on the minds of the young?

!WE HAVE SOMETHING FOR YOU TO DO!

The FOOD NOT BOMBS Story:

Food Not Bombs is one of the fastest growing revolutionary movements active today, and is gaining momentum!  There are hundreds of autonomonous chapters sharing free vegetarian food with hungry people and protesting war and poverty throughout the America's, Europe, Asia, and Australia.  Food not bombs is organizing for an end to the occupations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Palestine.  We also support actions against the globalization of the economy, restrictions to the movements of the people and the destruction of the earth.

The first group was formed in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1980 by anti-nuclear activists.  Food Not Bombs is an all volunteer organization dedicated to nonviolence.  Food Not Bombs has no formal leaders and strives to include everyone in its decision making process.  Each group recovers food that would otherwise be thrown out and makes fresh hot vegetarian meals that are served in city parks to anyone, without restriction.  The groups also serve free vegetarian meals at protests and at other events.  The San Francisco chapter has been arrested thousands of times in an effort to silence its protest against the mayor's anti-homeless policies.  Amnesty International states it may adopt those  Food Not Bombs volunteers that are imprisoned as "Prisoners of Conscience" and will work for their unconditional release.

Food Not Bombs works in coalition with groups like Earth First!, The Leonard Peltier Defense Committee, Anarchist Black Cross, the IWW, Homes Not Jails, Anti-Racist Action, In defense of Animals, the Free Radio Movement, and other organizations on the cutting edge of positive social change and resistance to the new global austerity program.  One collective publishes a movement wide newsletter called A Food Not Bombs Menu.  Another host is FNB NEWS where you can learn more about the Food Not Bombs community.  Food Not Bombs Publishing in Tacoma Park, Maryland publishes books like On Conflict and Consensus which has been an important guide for group democracy.  We hope you will join us in taking direct action towards created a world free from domination, coercion, and violence.

FOOD IS A RIGHT NOT A PRIVLEDGE
